The author’s following was so strong that an employee at a New Jersey Barnes & Noble contacted Coates about purchasing physical copies of her books. And her signature blend of classic horror with historical fiction, sci-fi, or the supernatural gave her novels a wide readership-her fans weren’t just horror fans. “And each book I released after that sold more.”įor the next five years, Coates’s e-books, including The Folcroft Ghosts, The Haunting of Ashburn House, and The House Next Door, captured the attention of countless readers. That was the year Coates self-published The Haunting of Gillespie House. But Coates’s titles were slow to sell-that is, until 2015, when everything changed. She followed that up by self-publishing 22 horror novels through Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing program. ![]() ![]() Seven years ago, Coates self-published her first horror e-book, “Once Returned,” a novella about a woman whose husband goes missing during a hiking trip. But with grit and determination, she went from self-published to a traditionally published author of more than 20 horror novels-many of which are USA Today bestsellers. Darcy Coates’s journey as a writer has been anything but easy. ![]()

One of the ways he shows emotion is by playing to the people’s sensitivity to the parent-child relationship. Finally, Paine understands that emotion is one of the most important pieces of an argument. ![]() He cites many things that play to the logical side of his argument, such as the King’s unfair taxation. Along with relying on his credibility as an author, he makes a very strong logical side. Paine’s credibility comes largely from his immigration status. He supported this theory very well, using his credibility, logic, and emotion. His main argument was that the solution to the tension between America and Great Britain was independence and that this could not be achieved by peace. In his pamphlet, Paine sought to make this idea turn into reality. While this idea was being considered by many, it was not widespread enough to become a possibility. Author: James Stoddard, William Hope Hodgson. The story opens in the 19th century, but quickly moves to the far future, where the sun has gone out, leaving the world in a darkness broken only by strange lights and mysterious fires. As a labor of love, James Stoddard has rewritten Hodgson's book to bring it to a wider audience. Penned in 1912, The Night Land is considered by many to be a work of genius, but one written in a difficult, archaic style that readers often find impenetrable. This is an interesting memoir of a lifetime spanning mostly pleasant experiences, and Juliet Stevenson is a fantastic reader. Along the way listeners get a glimpse into her life in Sweden and become more comfortable with the idea of letting go. Digging into her late husband's tool shed and her own secret drawer of vices, Margareta introduces an element of fun to a potentially daunting task. Margareta suggests which possessions you can easily get rid of (unworn clothes, unwanted presents, more plates than you'd ever use) and which you might want to keep (photographs, love letters, a few of your children's art projects). Her radical and joyous method for putting things in order helps families broach sensitive conversations and makes the process uplifting rather than overwhelming. In The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning, artist Margareta Magnusson, with Scandinavian humor and wisdom, instructs listeners to embrace minimalism. In Sweden there is a kind of decluttering called döstädning, dö meaning "death" and städning meaning "cleaning." This surprising and invigorating process of clearing out unnecessary belongings can be undertaken at any age or life stage but should be done sooner rather than later, before others have to do it for you. A charming, practical, and unsentimental approach to putting a home in order while reflecting on the tiny joys that make up a long life. ![]() ![]() ![]() Bill Browder - the hedge fund manager who employed Magnitsky - takes us on his explosive journey from the heady world of finance in New York and London in the 1990s, through his battles with ruthless oligarchs in the turbulent landscape of post-Soviet Union Moscow, to his expulsion from Russia on Putin’s orders.īrowder’s graphic portrait of the Russian government as a criminal enterprise wielding all the power of a sovereign state illuminates his personal transformation from financier to human rights activist, campaigning for justice for his late lawyer and friend. ![]() ![]() Red Notice is a searing expose of the wholesale whitewash by Russian authorities of Magnitsky’s imprisonment and murder, slicing deep into the shadowy heart of the Kremlin to uncover its sordid truths.
